Is the Bose S1 Pro+ still worth buying in 2026?

After using both the original Bose S1 Pro and now owning a pair of the newer Bose S1 Pro+ speakers, I can confidently say the answer is yes... provided you understand what this speaker was designed to do.

In this review, I'll explain why I still use these speakers regularly, what types of gigs they're perfect for, and why they continue to earn a spot in my gear collection.

The Battery Powered PA Speaker Market Has Changed

When Bose introduced the original S1 Pro back in 2018, the battery powered PA market looked completely different.

There simply weren't many serious portable PA speakers with rechargeable batteries available. Bose helped create an entirely new category for musicians, singers, DJs, presenters, and buskers who wanted professional sound without needing AC power.

Fast forward to 2026, and nearly every major audio manufacturer now offers a battery powered speaker.

Companies like QSC, Electro-Voice, JBL, Mackie, Yorkville, Alto Professional, and many others have entered the market with excellent alternatives.

Competition has never been stronger.

So does the Bose S1 Pro+ still deserve your attention?

I believe it absolutely does.

Why I Still Use the Bose S1 Pro+

I've owned the original Bose S1 Pro and currently own two Bose S1 Pro+ speakers.

The Plus version introduced several welcome upgrades includin

  • Wireless RF transmitter compatibility

  • Improved Bluetooth performance

  • USB-C charging

  • Wireless app control

  • Better overall connectivity

  • Improved user experience

While none of these features completely reinvent the speaker, together they make the Bose S1 Pro+ significantly more enjoyable to use.

Everything simply works.
Bluetooth connects quickly.
The app is reliable.
Setup takes only a few minutes.

When you're setting up multiple gigs every week, that convenience becomes incredibly valuable.

Bose Still Delivers One of the Best Sound Signatures

One reason musicians continue choosing Bose is simple. The sound.

Bose has always produced speakers with a warm, smooth, natural sound that works exceptionally well for vocals, acoustic music, backing tracks, and smaller live performances.

Every time I perform using my Bose S1 Pro+ speakers, someone comments on how clear and pleasant everything sounds. The wide dispersion is another major advantage. Instead of blasting the people standing directly in front of the speakers, the Bose S1 Pro+ spreads sound evenly throughout the room. That means audiences in the back hear the performance clearly without excessive volume.

For retirement homes, restaurants, ceremonies, cocktail hours, and intimate venues, this makes a noticeable difference.

Understanding What the Bose S1 Pro+ Was Designed For

This is where many people misunderstand the Bose S1 Pro+.

It is not intended to replace a large powered PA system.

It uses a 6-inch woofer.

While the bass response is impressive for its size, physics still applies.

A compact speaker can only move so much air.

If you're expecting a pair of Bose S1 Pro+ speakers to cover a packed outdoor event or a 300-person dance floor, you'll probably be disappointed.

However, use them within their intended purpose and they truly shine.

I've successfully used a pair for:

  • Retirement home performances

  • Small parties (up to approximately 50 guests)

  • Solo vocal performances

  • Acoustic gigs

  • Busking

  • Wedding ceremonies

  • Corporate presentations

  • Cocktail hours

  • House parties

For these applications, they're outstanding.

Final Thoughts

Technology moves quickly, but great products have a way of standing the test of time.

The Bose S1 Pro+ may have more competition than ever before, but it still earns its place among the best portable battery powered PA speakers available in 2026.

If you're searching for a speaker that's lightweight, sounds fantastic, sets up quickly, and consistently delivers excellent results for smaller performances, the Bose S1 Pro+ should absolutely remain on your shortlist.
